Rob's Sports Page Favorite teams: Chicago White Sox: You can put it on the board....yes !! The 2005 World Series Champs !!! You can say they became my team during the 1977 season when they were known as the Southside Hitmen and Harry Carey was the TV/Radio Announcer. This year has been a bust, I had high hopes for another trip to the playoffs, it was not to be. I did go to Spring Training in Arizona and caught two White Sox games and met Chris "Mad Dog" Russo at the Giants - Reds game at Goodyear! Robin Ventura is our new manager! Looking forward to Cactus League Spring Training
Indianapolis Colts: No, I'm not a fair weather/band wagon jumper...I've been with this team ever since they came to Indiana. I've gone though the bad times and enjoying the recent success. Looks like the Colts are going into cleaning house mode, including the end of Peyton Manning as a Colt. Stay tuned and let's give the young cats a chance. Indiana Pacers: Oh yeah...the Pacers !! Yes their heyday was during the old ABA years but they are an original Indiana team. We have gone though hard times ever since Reggie Miller's retirement and the fiasco at "The Palace". Last year was a step in the right direction, a playoff berth and giving the Chicago Bulls a run for their money in the first round match up. What a start in the 2012 season! trying not to get too excited but I like what I see ;-)
US Air Forces in Europe (USAFE) Football, United Kingdom Sports Conference Football 1985-1986 RAF Alconbury Spartans : This is a league I participated in for two years as an off and on starting running back and some fullback. My football career is one of my turns. I started as QB on the YMCA tackle football league in Kokomo Indiana we were the Giants. The team went 7-2 to finish tied for second place. The highlight of the season was a victory over the undefeated first place team at the time with my two best friends on the squad. I played freshman and junior varsity football in high school but never played a down of varsity football. At that point in my life, it was more important for me to work. At the time, I believed competitive football for me was over.....little did I know when I received orders to England, there was a tackle football league !! This league was very competitive and had some good football players in it. Some teams had players who actually played some college football and tried out for pro teams. The caliber of football played was probably around a good division III college team. I have since received some e-mail stating I'm being very conservative about the level of play so this is an open debate !! During my years the teams in the league were: Alconbury Spartans, Bentwaters Phantoms, Lakenheath Eagles, Upper Heyford Sky Kings, Greenhan Common Pirates, Fairford Falcons, Chicksands Fighting Chicks, and Mildenhall Marauders. The winner of the UK league played the champion of the Continental conference, mostly teams in Germany for the USAFE title. Please visit the USAFE Football web site! This Military league was in existence from 1946 to 1993 has has a lot of interesting history. My personal Alconbury Spartans page E-mail: usafefootball@robcausey.com | ||||||||||||||||||||
